Dolphin Yoga Retreat

Sometimes all you need is just six days with wild dolphins on the sunniest coast of Hawai'i.

Big Island, Hawai'i | January 23–28, 2027

An Invitation

A taste for real adventure, and an openness to what the water teaches.

The people drawn here tend to have a few things in common: a taste for real adventure, a genuine curiosity about their own growth, and an openness to whatever the water, and the week, decide to teach them.

Maybe it's the trip you've wanted to take alone but never quite talked yourself into. Maybe the future's felt a little foggy lately, or your thoughts have been circling the same runway without ever landing. Here's the truth: you don't need another routine to fix it. You need somewhere different enough, and kind enough, that you can finally hear yourself think.

A lot of what keeps us stuck can't be blamed on circumstances alone. The real culprit's actually the story we've been quietly telling ourselves for years. Six days away from your usual walls, with your feet in real sand and real water, and dolphins, has a way of loosening a story like that without you even noticing it happening.

You might feel right at home here if:

01

You're open to expanding your consciousness and connecting with something bigger than your inbox

02

You've wanted to travel somewhere on your own, but going it alone has kept your bags packed and by the door

03

The future feels a little uncertain right now, and you're looking for steadier ground under your feet

04

You're drawn to Hawaiian wisdom, and you'd love to learn it from someone who's actually lived it for decades

05

You're curious what it's really like to be in open water with wild dolphins, respectfully and up close

06

You want daily yoga and meditation without giving up the adventure: kayaking, snorkeling, real time outdoors

The Bay & The Dolphins

Kona coast makes you understand, almost immediately, why people travel a long way just to sit still here.

Wild spinner dolphins come and play in this bay, on their own time and their own terms. However, your guide, Tanmayo has a rule for meeting them that hasn't budged since the very first time she led someone into this water: a minimum distance of 50 yards. No chasing them around since respect always comes first.

The idea is to create what she calls a resonant field: to get still enough, open enough, that the dolphins themselves decide you're worth coming closer to. There's a quiet wisdom in that, if you let it sink in: the best things rarely come when you chase them.

“

Dolphins are conscious breathers. Like yogis, they are in touch with higher realms of consciousness. They have a lot to teach us about selflessness, love, and joy.

Your Guide

Tanmayo

Guiding dolphin retreats since1996

Tanmayo Nicole Brown has been walking the path of yoga since the 1970s, when she studied Sanskrit and dance in Paris, of all places to begin a journey toward the ocean. In 1976, she was initiated into meditation and self-realization by Osho, and spent the decades that followed learning at the feet of a long line of spiritual teachers.

In 1995, she was informally welcomed into a dolphin pod by Joan Ocean, in the deep water of the very same bay where she's been guided to hold retreats ever since. She says the encounter changed her forever. It softened her yoga practice into something more fluid, more compassionate, more whole. Alongside her retreats, Tanmayo is also a longtime bodyworker, trained in lomi lomi, cranio-sacral, and Thai massage, and a member of a performing Hula Halau.

What Past Guests Say

“Returning to Dolphin Retreat for my third time confirmed it's more than a getaway, it's a pilgrimage for the soul. Each morning, Tanmayo guides you into a state of perfect peace with her yoga sessions accompanied by live Hawaiian music. Following that with organic breakfast and dolphins in the bay is a magic they've perfected. A must-do experience, and the reason I keep coming back.”
MK
“It was one of the most relaxing times of my life, being in one of the most exquisite properties on the water and having Tanmayo and her team completely take great care of us. The experience of encountering the dolphins is a lifetime memory to keep. The foods were nourishing, clean, and delicious! I'd do it again!”
Yeyen Gunawan
“Tanmayo's dolphin yoga retreat was one of the most spectacular experiences that I have ever had! So much healing, learning, and so deeply life affirming. I will never forget the experience.”
Jane Harb (Yogi Jane), San Diego yoga teacher

The Return

People tend to leave different than they arrived.

Something happens out here that's hard to explain until it's already happened to you. Maybe it's the water. Maybe it's dolphins deciding, in their own time, that you're worth coming close to. Whatever it is, people tend to leave different than they arrived.

You'll pick up a couple of practices you'll actually use, not just fold into a drawer when you get home: how to sit with your own breath, how to loosen your grip on whatever's been sitting on your chest. And more than a few guests come back describing something closer to healing than relaxation, the quiet, unplanned kind that sneaks up on you and is hard to put into words.

Somewhere in the middle of it, most people find a bit more joy, a bit more meaning, and a softer way of looking at themselves, the people they love, and the wider world. That's usually the part they didn't come looking for, and the part they remember longest.

Questions You Might Have

Do I need yoga experience to come?+

Not even a little. Tanmayo's Dolphin Yoga is a balanced, Ashtanga-inspired restorative flow built for every level, every age, every stage of life, including the stage where you've never once touched your toes.

I'd be traveling alone. Is that okay?+

More than okay. A shuttle meets you at Kona airport and brings you straight to the retreat, and from the very first morning, you're part of a group doing the same things together. You'll arrive alone and, somehow, not feel that way again.

What if I have dietary restrictions?+

Meals are vegetarian, with egg, cheese, and fish available, plus gluten-free options. Let Tanmayo know what you need when you reserve your spot.

Is airport transportation included?+

Yes. A shuttle to and from Kona International Airport (KOA) is part of the retreat.
